What is the H-1B visa?

The H-1B visa grants a work permit with an initial validity of three years, with the option of extending it for a further three years. This visa is requested by an American company on behalf of a foreign professional, who is the beneficiary of the petition.

Who can apply for an H-1B?

Companies in the United States must file petitions in favor of specialized professionals who have a bachelor’s degree in their field. As there is no requirement for previous professional experience, the H-1B is a good option for recent graduates who are in the US on OPT, or even for foreign professionals who are employees of companies with operations in the US.

How to apply for an H-1B?

Every year, in the first few months of the year, the so-called H-1B season takes place, during which companies register their aspiring professionals to take part in a lottery. This lottery randomly selects a specific number of registered professionals, granting them the right to have their cases processed by the US immigration authorities.
